How does door to door shipping work?

Our Door-2-Door Shipping service offers an affordable solution for anyone who needs to move a few boxes from Australia to Malaysia. Shipping via sea takes a little longer than freight by air, however, it is the number one most cost-effective method to shift items around the world. So how does it work?

  1. Make an online booking. Anytime. Anywhere.
  2. Make payment using card at checkout.
  3. Pack items in boxes. Print and attach delivery labels to boxes.
  4. Update list of items on our A2SHIPPING web account.
  5. Print out courier labels and attach to each box (if relevant).
  6. Standby for pickup on the scheduled pickup day.
  7. Sit back, relax and let us take care of your shipment :)

What does “Door to Door” actually means?

Glad you asked. Door-to-Door means we collect your items from the front door of your building and we deliver them to the front door of your building at the destination address. This means if you live in a unit or apartment building and you want us to come in to collect or deliver to your front door you will need to arrange it with us as this will incur an extra charge.

Why do you have such low rates?

Our door-to-door service is so affordable because we employ a few cost-saving strategies that we then pass on to our customers.

  1. We set a standard that keeps the handling of items to a minimum, reducing workloads and thus cost.
  2. We take advantage of volume discount by consolidating your items with others like you.
  3. We use clever technology to automate the shipping procedure, reducing overheads.
  4. We pass some of the tedious work like packing, labelling, and paperwork off to customers.

When is pickup time & day?

You may expect the driver anytime from 9am-5pm. Currently, only customers sending from Melbourne has the pleasure of a courtesy call prior to pickup to let you know of the time window for pickup. If you need pickup during specific date or specific time, our premium service lets you choose pickup on any day (Monday-Friday) and the time window for pickup.

How big is a cubic metre?

A cubic metre is a volume of 1m width by 1m length by 1m height. As a guide, a cubic metre can contain up to 8 Tea Chest (TC) boxes. Or 6 TC boxes + 2 Half TC boxes. Please note we have a restriction of 8 items (boxes) per CBM. This is so we can minimize handling and keep cost low.

Cubic

Where can I get boxes?

We recommend you use heavy duty Tea Chest (TC) boxes. They are also known as removalist boxes or moving boxes. There is also the Half Tea Chest box and as the name suggests, it is half the size of the TC box.

These boxes can be found widely at your local storage facility the likes of Kennards Storage, UStoreIt, Storage King, even your local Bunnings and Officeworks. We highly recommend you to use the double-walled, or heavy duty version of the boxes.

Is there a weight limit?

An allowance of 25kg per item (box) is included. Your items will be measured and weighed once we receive them at our local warehouse and any extra weight or volume charges would be recorded and applied to your account.

Can I send 1 box only?

We have a minimum applicable charge of 1 CBM. Meaning even if you decide to only send 1 box, the full rate for 1 CBM will still apply.

Is my shipment insured?

Not unless you want it to be. You can simply choose to include insurance when booking. We can arrange for a complete transit insurance cover from door-to-door. Cover starts from a minimum of AUD300.

How can I make payment?

We accept online payment using Visa or Mastercard. Alternatively you can also pay via EFT using internet banking. Your booking will be secured once we have received your payment.

How can i ensure to not exceed weight limit?

To avoid potential additional charges you can weigh the boxes yourself before the scheduled collection day. Each item should not be heavier than 25kg. Simply weigh yourself on your bathroom scale, step off and grab one of your packed boxes and step back on the scales while holding it. The difference between your own weight and your weight while holding the box will give a good estimate of the box’s shipping weight.

Do you pickup from regional areas?

Yes, although please note that pickup from regional areas are subject to up to 2 days of allowance from selected pickup date. This is because the services for courier trucks are limited in regional areas.

My pickup is sceduled today but it’s already 5pm yet the driver has not turned up. What should I do?

We use a range of trusted third-party couriers to pickup from your door. Unfortunately, sometimes courier drivers get held up because of bad weather, accidents on the road, bad traffic and many other unexpected events that may result in them unable to stick to the scheduled pickup.

If your courier driver has not turned up by 5pm on the scheduled day, there is a good chance they have (sadly) missed your pickup. Please contact us and let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule the pickup.

Is custom clearance included? How about taxes and duties?

A shipment for your personal effect takes advantage of a “Concessionary Entry” which means you won’t have to pay anything extra. However, please be advised any government taxes, duties and additional customs fees are not included within our shipping rates and, if applicable, are payable directly by the shipper prior to final delivery.

To avoid incurring any extra fees, we recommend using 8 TC boxes or a combination of 6 TC boxes + 2 half TC boxes per CBM. This will ensure you won’t exceed your booking volume. Also;

  1. Weigh each item to ensure it does not exceed 25kg.
  2. Label your items correctly. Ensure the delivery colour code, name of shipper, delivery address, phone number and item number per total items on each label is correct.
